Staff Spotlight – Katie Wiltshire
Katie is a Registered Nurse, Midwife and Lactation consultant at CaFHS (Child and Family Health Service). She works with families to support their children’s health, development, and wellbeing needs, such as Harri, who she has supported for 3 years.
"My job is a labour of love and supporting families with their babies/children is something I am very passionate about. It really does 'take a village to raise a child', as being a parent is literally a 24/7 commitment and can be exhausting", says Katie.
Katie strongly encourages parents to build a ‘tribe’ of people to support you in the tough times, and also be positive influences that your children can build relationships with – whether its other family members, friends, CaFHS, parenting groups, people you meet through sports or social activities.
One of Katie’s favourite CaFHS initiatives is the Early Parenting Groups, a hallmark of the service that continues to be offered face to face and online for new parents.
"I still meet up with the Mums I met at my own personal new parent group 23 years ago, and the friendship that developed over the years is something we all cherish. I fully acknowledge my life as a Mum would have been so much more challenging without their unconditional support and care, especially in the early years."
The Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS) is a free service for all families with children from birth to 5 years living in South Australia. Our friendly and qualified team can help you give your child the best start in life.
